Mitä ovat vieraslajit?
Vieraslajit ovat kasveja, eläimiä ja muita eliöitä, jotka ovat levinneet ihmisen tietoisella tai tahattomalla myötävaikutuksella alueille, missä niitä ei luontaisesti esiinny. Lajit eivät pääse vuoristojen tai meren yli omin neuvoin. Useimmat vieraslajit kuitenkin sopeutuvat huonosti uuteen elinympäristöönsä ja tuhoutuvat nopeasti, viimeistään talven tullessa.
What are invasive alien species?
Invasive alien species are plants, animals and other organisms that have spread, with the intentional or unintentional contribution of man, to areas where they do not occur naturally. The species cannot get over the mountains or the sea on their own. However, most alien species adapt poorly to their new habitat and are rapidly extinct, by the onset of winter at the latest.
